  • Hey Josh I read your post concerning the changing of nozzles on the E3D hot end. I recently changed out my original 1.5+ extruder to a E3D. Since then I have developed an issue causing a hot-end nose dive EVERY-TIME that I attempt to 3D print anything. I did replace the mounting bracket for the BL-Touch sensor yet, but with it grinding into the bed surface, I don't know where to begin. Thank you.
Hello Josh, i have problem with my Gmax2 X_Axis, when i try to home x or level bed. BL touch exceeds the printing area to the right with crushing noise.. How can i fix this?
Good day Josh, I was hoping you could help me. I recently upgraded my gMax 1.5+ from a single J-Head to a dual E3D, and I had to roll back my version of Marlin to 1.1.1 to facilitate the upgrade. I'm told I could be running Marlin 2, and I'm just wondering if there is a guide on installation and configuration of a newer version of Marlin that encompasses the dual extruder upgrade? I need Babystep Z and Purge options.
Hello Joshua, I was wondering where I could get a copy of Marlin 1.1.9 for my gMax2. I'm changing to the TMC-2208 stepper drivers. I figure it will be a lot easier to configure using The gMax 2 stock firmware rather than a stock marlin.

I have already modified the system, but thanks for the warning.

well my question would be how do I edit the gmax_Marlin118_single_jhead_180212.ino.hex files?

@DSM3D in the download, there is a source file folder. That is where you will have to make your modifications. The hex file is a just a compiled version that is used for uploading the firmware. It can not be changed.

Hi Joshua, I got a new Filament Spool Sensor for a gMax 1.5+, but the pins that should be connected to, based on your tutorial, are occupied, can I use the other rows of pins and would work perfectly?
The heat sinks that came on my printer were attached with foam tape! The drivers actually worked better with the heat sinks removed. The foam tape actually insulates the driver keeping it warmer. I ordered new heat sinks and after installing everything is great. If you press on the heat sink and can see it get closer to the board you probably have foam tape.

    WATCH OUT FOR FOAM TAPE!

I hope this info makes it up th

We are actually using a new brand of stepper drivers now. That do not come with heat sinks. And no foam tape! Started to have to many problems with the foam tape.
Hi Joshua, I read you're the guy to talk to about printer issues. I am having troubles in that a couple of my designs won't print. The printer is moving along the design as it should, but the drive gear that pushes the filament through the hotend is not turning. When I try to print an older design it works great, just the 2 designs I did today won't allow for the gear to turn. I assume it is something with the file.

Thanks Joshua. I'm just curious where I would find the number of lines in Slic3r?

Just downloaded slic3r and checked, not sure if there is actually a way. Might want to reloading our configuration settings. Or switching to Cura. Slic3r is an older software and not updated much. We no longer create updated Slic3r profiles.

Thanks, I ended up loading the STL files I made using CAD Exchanger, then converting to gcode in Cura instead of Slic3r. Everything seems to be working great now!
    Hello Joshua,
I am looking to replace my E3D nozzle with a larger one for quicker printing times, but I see conflicting information on the website. What is the largest I can go with my 1.5xt+ printer? Thank you
Is there any way to purchase the steel electronics case with the boards and latest updates already installed?
Is Cura3.4 compatible with the gMax 1.5+ or does it have connective issues like the 3.3 version?

If you are using it just as a slicer, you can use any version of cura you want. But if you are uploading the firmware, you will need to use cura 3.1

It is compatible for slicing. Just not for uploading the firmware. We have also put out profiles for cura 3.5
