Fun with PID autotune, fan speed, and adafruit motor sheild

#1
I recently installed an E3D v6 on my Gmax 1.5. Whenever you change anything about your extruder it is a good idea to run PID autotune. Here is a nice tutorial on that process.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APzJfYAgFkQ
The command I sent was M303S220C10. When I did this I noticed that the fan was off while the printer was running PID autotune. And I thought to my self, every printer's cooling fan will affect the temperature of the extruder differently. My fan shroud is just a little bit too high so the cooling effect on the extruder should be greater. I pulled out my motorsheild and controlled the fan while autotune ran 5 times over. Each time I ran autotune I used the same command M303S220C10. Here is what I came up with.

fan PWM | fan PWM%| kP | kI | kD
255 | 100%| 33.41 | 3.59 | 77.74
204 | 80% | 32.09 | 3.5 | 73.6
153 | 60% | 45 | 5.16 | 98.06
104 | 40% | 43.34 | 4.97 | 94.43
52 | 20% | 34.59 | 3.72 | 80.46
0 | 0% | 44.51 | 5.71 | 86.78

I have no idea how or what PID autotune does. I know that it is very important in keeping a stable temperature in your extruder. But I cannot see any correlation with cooling fan speed. I was hoping for results that would tell me something. So far the message is... I am over thinking it. :!: :?: Good thing I had fun. I hope I fed you some food for thought.
