Do I require a new gcode file for each print?

Yes. Gcode is the final file which contains all the settings you chose during slicing. This file must be created for each 3d model you wish to print. If you change any settings, such as speed or infill, a new gcode file must be made.

Basically the 3d model you start with, which is typically an .stl file, is the actual model and you can create as many gcode files you wish, all with different settings.

You can also open the gcode file in a text editor to see some of the settings, such as layer height and temperature settings. "Some" of these settings can be modified and the file can be saved if you need to make small changes.

Note: in the gcode file you can't simply change the layer height to adjust the quality. Instead the model must be re-sliced.
