SD card help...

#1
When I load the SD card in the card reader in the printer it can see the card and the folder but can not see the files. If I plug the SD card into my PC and plug the usb cable into the printer it sees the files and prints. Any thoughts on getting the card reader on the printer to see the files on the SD card when it is in the printer card reader? Printer has the stock firmware installed.

There was a cable that was pre-installed on the control box that was not plugged in correctly. The 2 wire connector was flipped over. Corrected the wiring and the SD card is working as designed. Suggestion, check all cables pre-installed to insure correctness.

The SD card seems to be a funky... some time is work and other times not. Still seeking other users thoughts on this subject. If I take the SD and pop it in my PC everything is fine... prints like a champ... until I walk away fore a few houses and the PC is fast asleep and the printing stops. :(

Thank you!

Thank you for the suggestions. While we agree the SD card reader has weird 'funkiness' the only problems we have encountered is the garbled text. We have been printing literally every night for about 8 months now (not even joking, I get up every few hours to pop off prints thanks to my architectural sleep training) we have not encountered a stopped print. If the print pauses and says 'waiting for input' you can remove the SD card and reinsert it to continue the print.

To help us fix these problems can you let us know what environment you are printing in? Is it very dry and possibly conducive to static? We are trying our best to alleviate these problems.

Also, which two-wire connector was connected wrong? Was it the ribbon cable for the LCD, the thermistor etc? We really want to reduce any possible QC errors on our end.

Thanks for your help.

Hi G,

Thank you for your posting! The environment here is dryer and about 64 degrees with low static.

The wires connected incorrectly were the D9 block on the board... they were reversed.

As for the SD card. I am using the slot on my Laptop as the slic3r program is a little easier to understand then the menu on the printer. I am still trying to figure out how to print things that are solid like the parts that came as part of the printer printer. I seem to to be getting output that is spongy and not solid like your printing. A suggestion, could you list the setting you use when you are printing the stock hardware. kind of like a menu tree of the setting. I know the environment plays factor but it might help a lot of people that are silently struggling and of course me since I am asking... :)

Attached are some pic for you...

I hope this helps you a bit.

Check this post regarding the print issues viewtopic.php?f=7&p=144#p144

For the stock printing on our end we use the defaule slic3r config file on the download page. Note we are using the old firmware so our extrusion multiplier is 0.85 (the new one has 1.05).

I ran into the same issue of the reader recognizing the SD card was inserted but being not seeing any files to load.

The wires appear to be in the correct order but I'm using USB cable and Repetier to get things working.

Just a thought. Don't know if this is the issue.

The SD card is inserted under the LCD display with the contacts facing up. That is flipped from how the card is typically inserted into the card reader on most computers.

My printer wouldn't list the files on my SD card until I formatted it as Gordon suggested. Great advice. Worked like a champ. Thanks Gordon.
